The Vintage Boutique - stylish & sustainable!

After much deliberation, we decided to invest in vintage fashion and to set up a small part of our furniture and decoration shop in the Antikhalle especially for this purpose. But first, let's talk about our exact concept and understand the bigger picture!

"Let's start small - but with a big plan in our pocket!"

After the rather critical considerations of the past few weeks (more precisely after completing our PRO & CONTRA list ), we decided to start a trial - initially on a smaller scale. After successfully testing the concept, we can then expand and add more and more products! This is how we started:

What a coincidence that our big trip to America was just around the corner... Original vintage from the USA - what a dream for the start of a new section in the shop! Two suitcases full of the most amazing vintage clothing traveled back to Germany with us and are now waiting to be given a new life!

In order to try out the concept at the beginning, we have deliberately decided NOT to offer the special pieces online at first, but to open a small "boutique" in the Antikhalle (Megahalle Hauset, Aachener Str. 214, 4730 Raeren, Belgium) , where customers have the opportunity to try out materials and fit on site.

A high-quality presentation is necessary so that the goods have the greatest possible impact, attract customers to the stand and motivate them to try things on. Our mission: to create a stylish corner with a boutique feel! First, a rough sketch was created (the old-fashioned way, by hand). I measured the usable stand area beforehand in order to create a drawing and idea that was as realistic as possible!

A drawing like this is super helpful! It was the only way I was able to create a to-do list for the boutique :

Design and build your own clothes rack in industrial design - if possible with additional storage space for shoes and accessories
Obtain antique mannequin (s) (buy or borrow from a junk shop)
Get 1-2 large mirrors from storage and install them in a corner
Vintage baskets & drawers for displaying belts, etc.
Get high-quality wooden coat hangers

The rest would then become clear during the construction process. Let's do this!

Vintage Clothing Selling Presentation Ideas

It turned out awesome, right?

You want the whole truth? Just to give you an idea of the time and money involved...

Investment costs (WITHOUT PRODUCTS and decoration): approx. 300€ for the DIY clothes rail on wheels + approx. 30€ for wooden hangers, protective film (for storage during the week) and accessories (labels, jute bags etc.)
Time required for implementation: 3 half days, i.e. half a day each for:

Buying materials at the hardware store - it really took hours!
Construction of clothes rail/shelf plus drying of the protective varnish
Renovation, decoration & finishing touches of the vintage boutique
