John Ingram (1721-1767) after David Teniers (1610-1690) d. J. – “Le Berger Content”
This striking etching and engraving depicts an idyllic rural scene after a painting by David Teniers the Younger. A contented shepherd sits relaxed on a rock surrounded by his flock of sheep, a goat and a cow. He holds a shepherd's crook while playing a flute. In the background, a mountain rises with suggested architecture that adds depth to the composition.
The work was engraved by John Ingram and printed on fine laid paper. A charming example of Teniers' masterful rural scene painting, artfully realized using Ingram's detailed printing technique. Ideal for collectors of historical prints or lovers of Flemish Baroque art.
A special detail is the stamp “Biblioteca Chalcographia Regiae Belge” – an indication of the permission of the Albertina Bibliotheek Brussel to produce selected prints.
