Description

The object depicted is a decorative brass plate or platter with a relief depicting the profile of a man wearing a helmet. The plate is elaborately decorated and features a typical Renaissance-style repoussé frieze from the late 19th century.

A repoussé frieze is a decorative element decorated using the repoussé technique, incorporating elements of Renaissance architecture and art. Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which the metal is worked from the reverse side to create a relief pattern on the front side. Friezes serve both for aesthetic design and for demarcating and structuring components. Such panels were often used as wall decoration or as fireplace surrounds.

There is a stable wall mount on the back.
