Authentic antique school box from the 19th century , made of solid wood with a practical sliding lid - a fascinating museum piece for collectors or historical school supplies .
A rare piece of school history : This handcrafted school kit dates back to the early 19th century and was used in the German-Dutch border region as a precursor to the modern school satchel. They were used to transport and store notebooks and pens. If there was no paper available, people would write on the kit. Hence the saying "to have something on the kit" (etwas auf dem Kasten haben). If you diligently took notes, you were well-educated and therefore had something written on your kit. This satchel is an example of how many things were very different in school in the past than they are today.
Made of solid wood, with a charming heart-shaped cutout in the handle area and a functional sliding lid, the box was once used to safely transport writing utensils. Instead of shoulder straps, the box has a handle. Today, it's a fascinating museum piece and a sought-after collector's item—ideal for historically minded decorators or as a special vintage highlight. This small wooden box is a true rarity. Museum quality, a rare original piece .
Style: Folk art
Dimensions: The box is 45 cm high, 20 cm wide and 12 cm deep.
